We took Ben to the playground while we were at Hopkins County Stew Festival. Several things we have learned about Ben. We love the slide, we hate the swing....at last for now this is our official diagnosis. Better luck next time I guess! :)

Last Weeks' Project

I spent the last week refurbishing this antique horse for Ben's 1st B-day. This horse is actually pretty special. It is 37 years old and has been a toy for 58 kids, grandkids and great grandkids and came from an old lady here in Kaufman county.

I sanded it down, stained it mahogany and put some lacquer on it. We ripped out the mane and tail and replaced it with new yarn. Check it out!

Hopkins County Stew Festival!

Last weekend we went to David's 10 Year High School Reunion....but before that we attended Hopkins County Annual Stew Festival which was super. Ben did not care for the stew itself but rather enjoyed his crackers, potatoes and cheese. Boys!

Ben loves to play with others but he also loves to be in charge and play by himself. Some mornings Ben does not know which toy to run to first! He loves them all! I think most of all Ben loves his Bulldozer (that was given to Ben by Sasha for temporary upkeep), he plays with it everyday. He especially loves to take the seat off and then chew on it.

As many of you know...one of Ben's many talents is his ability to play by himself. I think he enjoys that time actually because at school he has to share his toys...at home, well the only competition is mom and dad! LOL!

Ben spent about an hour the other day just playing on the living room floor with his many hand-me-downs! Fun Fun Fun!

BTW, today Ben waived for the first time after his teacher asked him to waive to her at the end of the day and what do you know? He actually did it!

Thank you to Sasha who gave one of his toys to Ben the other day. As you can see it is Bulldozer! Thank you for Grandma for bringing all the way from Carrollton so Ben can enjoy his new "ride"!

Our first trip to the Pool at Travis Ranch

Monica and I took Boo to a swimming pool! His 1st time! We have been trying to take him to the pool for a month but our schedules just have not worked out. It was really nice because the pool was not busy at all and Ben truly enjoyed his time swimming and splashing. Our plan is to go back tomorrow (Monday) and again on Wed and Thursday with daddy when he comes home for a short break.

Doctor update

I took Ben to the doctor and he is doing GREEEAT!

Here are some stats...

Weight is 21 lb (45%)
Height: 28 inches, grew by 2 inches since last Dr visit with teething (3 weeks ago) (25%)
Head: 18 inches (45%)

Doing great!

We are going to begin introducing cow milk in a week or so. We do have orders to get off the bottle by 1 and to move on to cow mil by 1 years old. Yippe!

Ben is doing great eating everything under the sun. There are only few things that the Dr does not want to us to eat just yet: Peanuts, Seafood, Grapes, Eggs, Hotdogs and limited sugar (very limited).

Today for lunch we are going to have grilled cheese sandwich and some veggies.

We are 9 1/2 months old now and boy have we made progress!!!!

We now eat all kinds of foods like chicken nuggets, soy beans, Ritz crackers, Gold Fish, Mac-n-Cheese and all kinds of other goodies. Ben loves to try new foods, especially different textures.

Daycare is going great. He is now at a Montessori (same daycare that was purchased). We really like it and love our teacher who spoil Ben absolutely rotten.

We now get a real menu at daycare and we have to circle things we want Ben to eat this week. Today Ben had chicken spaghetti, peaches, green beans, yogurt and Gold Fish. When Ben got home he had Honey Baked Chicken Tenders, soy beans and a big juicy bottle.

We have teeth, on top and on bottom, so watch out world...Here I chew!

Ben loves to crawl into bed with Dad. The only chances we get are on weekends after daddy wakes up. They can sit in bed together and do nothing for an hour. It is sweet to watch.

Well, where does time go? Ben turns 8 months old tomorrow and it is really hard to believe. Many people have told me that once you have a baby, times flies even faster. Now I look back and thing...Boy, were those folks right!!!!!

Ben now crawls with autobahn speeds. Eats anything and everything that you put in front of him and is learning how to hold and to drink out of a sippy-cup. We now weight over 18 lbs and are 27 inches long.

Because Ben has become so mobile and likes to pull up and stand up while holding on to things, they are moving him to the big boy room at day care.

1st Annual NICU Reunion - LakePoint Hospital

We have attended the 1st Annual NICU Reunion Party at LakePoint Hospital. It was great fun and we got to see the nurses that took care of us for 9 long days. They had a toy walk, face paint, picture buttons, food and drinks, temporary tattoos and balloons. It was great to visit with everyone and talk a tour of a brand new state of the art Level 1-3 NICU unit.

On June 4th, we turned 7 months old! Wow! Have we met any progress? Why yes we have, thanks for asking. Here is a list of the items we eat and love and in order that we started to eat them.

* Cereal

* Peaches
* Applesauce
We also enjoy cereal puffs and even have 2 visible (and very sharp) teeth, pictures to come!

We can also independently sit and can almost crawl. I bet by next weekend we will be traveling the world (living room by method of crawling).

Ben is growing really fast, in fact, next week we turn 7 months old. Ben can now sit on his own, he is eating a variety of vegetables( green peas, butternut squash, green beans and sweet carrots) but his favorite is squash. He also likes bananas in his cereal. We have started on cereal puffs and yesterday morning we reached out to grab and attempt to eat mom's very delicious glazed doughnut. He is attempting to crawl but not yet...... Enjoy the photos! Sasha's 3rd Birthday was a huge success! We all had a lot of fun but most importantly Sasha had fun and received tons of great presents! We are 16 weeks old now! Can you believe it? On March 4th we are going to celebrate our 4 month birthday! Nothing special is planned, just a nice evening at home, after I teach.

Ben started cereal on Sunday afternoon, our choice was to start on Rice, so far so good. He seems to really like it.

We are now 15 weeks old and we have survived our first week of day care. Ben loves his daycare and we are being told he is one of the best babies they have. He usually sleeps about 5-6 hours during the time he is there but he gets pooped so he comes home ready for a meal and a cat nap, after which he eats again and goes to bed for good.

A new ride!

David and I purchased a new ride today. Looks like we will be pimpin' a Yukon now instead of a Toyota Tacoma. After a couple months of serious searching of a truck, we have come to a conclusion that we would rather have a large SUV for the next several years until the lease on my VW runs out and we will then get a truck. So, we have been working on a deal with Sewell Hummer of Plano for the last 5 days on a 2007 Yukon. The car will be delivered to us tomorrow but meantime we are stuck with a loaner....a Hummer....big surprise! Here is a picture of a car, however it will be white!

We have replaced our kitchen sink with the help of Stanley! The combination of my husband and my father-in-law pretty much equals "they can do anything!". I decided one day it was time for a new sink and time for the leaky faucet to hit the road so we purchased a new "composite" sink and an awesome faucet to go with it. See for yourself. Thanks again to Stanley for putting it together for us!

Check us out! Ben is 10 weeks old now, a big boy! He weights 10 1/2 pounds and is 21 3/4 inches long. The doctor was very impressed with him (Jan 5th). Ben got all his 2 months shots and was a very good baby at the doctors office....God willing we will not be seeing the doctor for another 2 months.

Feb 15th we will be going to daycare in Forney.....wish us luck!

Here are some pictures of Ben that we took this week. We are now officially 9 weeks old. We have made a ton of progress this week. We are making all kinds of noises now and we are able to perfectly hold our neck for 10 minutes. I keep my eyes open for the majority of the day and I now smile alot more and even giggle......

We now can hold our neck almost perfectly and we now smile and keep our eyes open ALOT! We also now eat 5 oz at a time. When we left the hospital at 9 days old we could barely finish an 1.5 oz bottle. See what great progress we made? !!!!!

Ben had his first "birthday" on December 4th. He turned 1 month old and we are excited about that. He is a great baby!
We went to visit grandma & grandpa in Mesquite for an hour in the evening. We had a good time and Ben got a present, a gold dollar coin...we are going to save it for him. Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!

1. We can really hold our neck now, especially when I am on my tummy and when being picked up
2. I now sleep in my crib at night
3. I can sleep for almost 6 hours (at night) at a time (not all the time but I am trying)
4. My cord is hanging on by it is going to fall off today or tomorrow.
5. I now eat 3 ounces at a time
6. I know how to cry with tears now
7. I am fascinated by my mobile and can actually pay attention and focus

Oliver is 3 weeks old

We are 3 weeks old this week. We have made a ton of progress. Last Monday our weight was 6 lb and 12 oz and we have been gaining a consistent 1 oz a day and some days 1.5 oz a day. We also keep our eyes open for a couple of hours a day (cumulative) and sometimes more! Ben is really trying to work his neck muscles by trying to lift his head when he is laying on his tummy and he is doing a great job.

Ben's 1st Bath

We gave Ben his first "sponge" bath today at home. He did not mind it at all, in fact, he loves to get his hair washed. All of a sudden, his hair lightened up and became really soft....I am sure we took many layers of dirt off his head....
He smelled so good and his skin is softer than ever......Look at him.....is he not an Angel?

Welcome Oliver Bennett Foster (Series #1 of Many)

Our little Angel did show up 3 weeks early.

Oliver Bennett Foster was born November 4th at 5:56 PM (on a Wednesday)
He was born at Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall.

Little Oliver was 6 pounds and 6 ounces and whopping 19.75 inches long.

We had a little bit of a rough start, as Oliver spend almost 9 days in NICU getting help for his breathing problems but not to worry, we are home now, we are in a routine and doing GREAT!

Oliver is a great eater! He is also a great baby to be around, very quiet, gentle and loving!

On our way to the airport (after the Alaskan cruise) we ran into an interesting Seattle Tradition. On the hottest day of the year (historically) a bunch of people would get together, strip to nothing, paint their bodies and drive around down town naked on their roller blades or bicycles. I debated whether or not I should even post this but you guys really should get a "snippet" of what we were exposed to in Seattle. :) haha! enjoy! Don't go enlarging the photos!

Our last cruise stop was Prince Rupert in Canada which ended up being my absolutely favorite. For over an hour we were able to follow this family of orcas (mommy/daddy and baby orca). We learned alot of interesting facts about orca's life but also other whales (like the humpbacks) which were native to the area but we did not see...Arent' these precious?

The Nursery

The Nursery has been completed. It has been painted by my dad and touched up by Mary Lou and the chair rail was put up by David and Stanley. Thank you to all, I really appreciate it. The furniture made it's way from the garage to the nursery after the paint dried and the chair rail was up. As you can see, we had a bit of an assembling party after which we hit up the steak house to relax. Whew! Thank you all so much for helping with it, would not have been able to do it without you!

Inside Passage!

These pictures were of the inside passage as well as one of the glaciers that the captain wanted us to see. He did a 360 degree turn so all of us could see the "end" of the glacier. It was breathtaking. While in the inside passage we saw some seals. Some people saw whales but i did not. Pay attention to the only "green" picture and you will see a tiny bear.

The float plane picked us up and off we went into the sky. This excursion was a substitute to our mushing excursion (since it got cancelled because of heavy fog). But nonetheless, we did not regret going to see the glaciers. Here is a brief excerpt of what we saw.

The glaciers are remnants of the Ice Age making up the Juneau Icefields 1,500 square miles of solid ice. We saw the imposing faces, deep crevasses and azure blue melt water pools of the Norris, Hole-In-The-Wall, East and West Twin Glaciers and the Mighty Taku. Of the Icefields 36 named glaciers, the Taku Glacier, five miles wide at its base, is the only glacier not retreating (it's actually advancing)!

Lunch at Red Onion Saloon (Skagway, Alaska)

After horse riding, David and I stopped in for lunch at a very famous place, Red Onion Saloon (which used to serve as a brothel). It had amazing history, a museum and even original floors from the 1800's. Check out the history below the pictures.
The waitresses wore their costumes well, cleavage and all. :) A site for all!

The Red Onion Saloon, now a National Historic Building, was Skagway’s most exclusive bordello. Built in 1897 with planks cut by Captain William Moore, the founder of Skagway, the Red Onion Saloon opened for business in 1898. The saloon served alcohol on the first floor while the upper floor satisfied more than the prospectors thirst. The brothel consisted of ten tiny cubicles, called cribs, each ten foot by ten foot with three exits, one into the hallway and one into each of the adjoining rooms. Each room also had a hole in the floor which connected to the cash register in the bar by means of a copper tube.

In order to keep track of which girls were busy, the bartender kept ten dolls on the back bar, one for each of the girls in each of the rooms. When a girl was with a customer, her doll was laid on its back. When she sent her money down the tube, the doll was returned to the upright position signaling to the waiting prospectors that she was ready for business. The bartender safeguarded the girl’s earnings, usually $5.00, preferably in gold. The girls then utilized the loose floorboards to hide nuggets and private tips.

Because the rooms were divided by single planks toe-nailed into the ceiling and floor not much sound-proofing was provided. To decorate their cribs, the women stretched linen across the rough planks, then glued wall paper to the cloth. Remnants of the original wall papers still cling to those planks. Some of the girls who worked in Skagway were Birdie Ash, Big Dessie, Popcorn Lil, the Oregon Mare, Babe Davenport, Pea Hull Annie, Kitty Faith, the Belle of Skagway and Klondike Kate

Look at the difference just 2 months make. We will get him to get a little cuter before we post the next sonogram which will in 7 or so weeks. Isn't it incredible?

David's New Toy

David has a new toy that he purchased yesterday. Check it out! It is a 2005 Starcraft Aurora 2000 Deck/Ski Boat. It is a lot of fun.
David is taking applications for naming choices, please submit directly to him.... haha!
